I love how cheap they are here in the US. 60 days of a general male multivitamin? $6 from anywhere.

But I agree. They should just have truthful non-misleading information (all claims should either be scientifically backed or labeled as not) and just let the public roam free.

Stupid NZ government. You can still buy ephedrine over here..

I guess it'd be nice if supplement claims were backed up, but then they'd have to go through all the regulations passing the cost to the consumer. I take everything on supplement labels with a grain of salt and do my own research into their effects, as long as they contain what they claim I'm happy. I don't want to be nannied by the state. And if they want to be consistent they should enforce regulations on the cosmetics industry which is full of pseudo science that they use to market their products.

Plus are a raft of supplements that will probably be removed from market. Most notably 5-htp which is the precursor to serotonin. It helps people sleep, elevates mood, and has other positive effects (plus it is a great mediator of feeling down after a particularly 'happy' night).

Is this really that bad?

Isn't the issue not safety in terms of side effects (ie pharma drugs may be nasty strong chemicals but at least in most cases the potential issues are known) but one of consistency and consumers getting what they pay for.

I can't remember specific examples off hand but I'm sure I've read about supplements etc making claims that are unsupported and or not actually having in them what they say they contain.

Assuming this is the case, surely trying to remove such issues is a good thing.

The questions is whether this measure causes more costs than it does benefits

Haha, I think he'd have to be a supervillain.

Although, I guess it depends on whether he uses his powers for GOOD or EVIL...

I'm currently imaging a superhero, called "Antivitamins Bill".

He would have the deadly power of nutritional restriction.
